Are you someone who has questions about your child’s first dental appointment? If so, our dental team is more than happy to help you find the answers you need. The more you know about the appointment, the more prepared you and your child can be. So, to help you, our dentists, Dr. Trace Lund and Dr. Kevin Markham, would like to share the answers to these commonly asked questions:
Q: What will happen at the appointment?
A: Your child will sit comfortably in the dental chair and our dental team will get to know them a little bit. We will gradually earn their trust and help them feel excited about everything that is going on. We will take X-rays and will examine your child’s smile to make sure everything is in tip-top shape. This appointment is mostly meant to help your child feel comfortable with our team and at our office.
Q: Can I be there next to my child?
A: You can most definitely be next to your child. You can even hold their hand if you feel it is necessary. When you are there with your child, it can help them feel more comfortable during the appointment.
Q: What if my child has a cavity?
A: Then our dentist will discuss the next steps with you. Typically, they will provide a treatment during a different appointment so your child isn’t overwhelmed during their first appointment. But the treatment will need to be soon. Your dentist will determine the best course of treatment possible and will gently provide the treatment all while keeping your child calm and comfortable at our office.
